“I don’t think there is a particular memory that shaped the album, I think it’s more that we were trying to capture the feeling of a memory, or that feeling you get when you think back on your memories.”
Tomorrow, Mayday Parade will be kicking off their Welcome to Sunnyland tour with friends in This Wild Life, William Ryan Key (formerly of Yellowcard) and Oh, Weatherly. The tour is in celebration of their recently released sixth studio album Sunnyland released via Rise Records.
October 2nd will be a hometown show in Tallahassee, FL. This past summer, the band was one of the featured headliners on the final Vans Warped Tour.
“This set will probably be more diverse then any set we have done previously. We are still going to play the hits, but we want to build a set that incorporates a lot of songs that we haven’t played much over the years.” said bassist Jeremy Lenzo. “We want our fans who have seen us multiple times to be able to see some songs we don’t normally perform. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun for them, and for us.”
Sunnyland features tracks such as “Piece of Your Heart” and “Take My Breath Away” that remind listeners why they fell in love with the band at A Lesson in Romantics. A press release describes the album as being filled with “punk fury to folk-tinged ballads, mediations on love and less to anger over the 2016 election”.
“I don’t think there is a particular memory that shaped the album, I think it’s more that we were trying to capture the feeling of a memory, or that feeling you get when you think back on your memories.” explained Lenzo. “What if I would have done this differently, or reacted to this situation differently, or just that feeling you get when you think back on a positive memory and it just makes you feel good for a moment.”
“We love our fans and we are grateful our music still sticks with them, overall I think we just want to write a good album that can resonate with them and maybe if anything it will let them know we all go through the same things.” said Lenzo.
