Against the Current is currently on their own headlining tour following their successful trek as support for emo legends Fall Out Boy. The band released their second full length album, Past Lives fall of 2018.

Opening for the tour is Guccihighwaters from New York. His humble appearance on stage created an intimate vibe with the crowd, as opposed to some rappers who lack interaction with their fans.

While his set was packed with recent releases like “filling up the space,” he treated the crowd to a couple unreleased tracks; “amnesia” and his closing song “high school.”

Following was Chapel, a Georgia based duo of Carter Hardin and Kortney Grinwis. The friendship between these two is oh so apparent on stage, and can’t help but force you to smile when Hardin gestures to Grinwis jamming on the drums, showing her off.

The band has such a fun, groovy vibe with their music. Grinwis is a powerhouse on drums while Hardin’s smooth vocals pair perfectly with the beat.

The band’s closing song, “We’ve Got Soul” caused the entire crowd to start dancing and singing along. Chapel does not have any recent releases, but this leaves us high in anticipation for what is to come.

Finally, Against the Current took the stage to an eruption of applause and cheers. Vocalist Chrissy Costanza jumped onto the riser, encouraging the crowd to sing along to “Strangers Again.”

Costanza stole the show, her iconic backbends entranced the crowd and only highlighted her powerful vocals. Throughout the entire 17 song setlist, she did not miss a beat.

This isn’t to say that her supporting band members lacked relevance. Dan Gow and Will Ferri brought the funky, pop driven beats that gave Costanza’s vocals a home.

The crowd was full of people of all ages, from younger school-aged girls to adult men bopping along to the performance. The diverse crowd created a welcoming atmosphere.

The majority of their set was songs off of Past Lives, but still included favorites off of the bands 2016 album In Our Bones like “Chasing Ghosts” and “Runaway.” A unique acoustic performance of “Running with the Wild Things” kicked off the encore.

Against the Current closed their set with “Another You (Another Way)” from their 2014 EP Infinity, proving that their old tracks would not fall silent as they progressed in their career.

Against the Current will be on tour in the U.S. through the end of April until hopping across the pond to the U.K. Dates and tickets can be found here.
