Westland pop-punk band Aim Lower broke into the local scene last weekend. The band released their debut EP, Long Story Short, on January 12, 2018. In honor of the release, they hosted a show in their home city at The Token Lounge.
The band was joined by their friends in Foiled, Sincerely, The Major Minor, Desires and Man Eating Lion. Friends and family filed into the bar quickly after doors opened.
Foiled, an indie acoustic duo from Ypsilanti opened the evening. The band performed songs from their debut EP Oh, Suburbia. The bands soft indie sound transposed the busy bar as Tim McCormack sang.
Sincerely, a rock band from Detroit jammed out next. They released their debut EP, Sweet Talk, this past fall. Their groovy sound made for a great variety in the sets that evening.
Ready, Set Rendezvous from Livonia came out next. The band originally formed in 2010 and has been busting out their unique pop-punk jams since. The band performed a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle” where everyone in the audience seemed to sing a long.
Dan Amaro of The Major Minor performed guitar and vocals for the next set. The band recently signed with Immense Records last year for their debut EP, Different Light. Amaro performed the song “Maps” which is included on the EP.
Detroit band Desires kicked off an energetic set with vocalist Steve Goldberg joining the crowd. The band is signed with Third String Records and recently released the single “Bruises” featuring Mike Martenson in Boys of Fall. Their set ended with “Crux”, where Goldberg insisted the crowd sing along to the lyrics; “This is not my heart, this is not my home, I’m not dying for this.”
Up next, Detroit natives Man Eating Lion brought an intense energy to the stage, Vocalist Isaac Smith was a storm as he sang on stage. The band released their second EP, Swine, Scissors and Twine, in 2017. Their set included fan favorite from the EP, “Pig Wings”.
Finally, Aim Lower took the stage as fans crowded together up front. The band was all smiles as they stood on stage, constantly thanking everyone for being there. Vocalist Steve Jones claimed he didn’t care how annoying they got, he wanted everyone to be able to hear them. The band performed the EP, including songs “Happy Endings” as well as the single “Popsicles and Leather Jackets”. Aim Lower brought a tight set that evening, that was full of excitement. Steve Goldberg from Desires came on stage for his guest vocals in “Worst Nights”, the closing song off the EP.
Aim Lower’s debut EP Long Story Short can be streamed and purchased on all major distributors.
The band will be playing The Two Stage Rage on Feb. 10 at Hot Rocks Sports Bar in Warren (previously The Ritz).
