Singer, rapper and instrumentalist Anderson .Paak has started to make an impact on the scene with his recent Grammy win for his summer-fun single “Bubblin’.” It comes as no surprise that on his third stop of the Andy’s Beach Club Tour, .Paak managed an electrifying and visual experience that managed to heat up the frigid Detroit weather.

Opening act Tayla Parx (not pictured) gave a colorful and energetic performance to warm up the audience. The singer-songwriter has written Ariana Grande’s latest singles “thank u, next” and “7 rings,” as well as the Khalid/Normani collaboration “Love Lies.”

Although she is newer to the live performance scene, she was enveloped by the love of the late-night Motor City crowd.

Behind a veiled curtain, .Paak emerged, clad in beach attire. He sat behind a drum set and started the night off with “The Chase.” The psychedelic and entrancing performance kicked the show off on a high note with accompanying lights. The setlist managed to capture the highlight reel of .Paak’s career, including his recent albums Malibu and Oxnard

Some of the most memorable performances of the show included the newly-minted fan favorite “6 Summers,” a tongue-in-cheek tune critiquing some of the most divisive political issues in American culture. Other highlights include his latest single “Who R U?” accompanied by his signature dance moves and a breathtaking light show.

However, .Paak made sure to let accompanying band The Free Nationals have their moment under the spotlight. The band took a moment to perform their latest Daniel Caesar-assisted single “Beauty & Essex.”

Despite all of the incredible instrumental performances, one of most important moments of the evening went to the tribute for Mac Miller in the concert’s finale. Performing their duet “Dang!” from the late-Miller’s album The Divine Feminine, .Paak asked the crowd to join him in saying, “We love you, Mac. We miss you, Mac.” Full of heart and impressive musicianship, .Paak shows in his latest Detroit visit that he is an act to not mess with.

.Paak and The Free Nationals will be performing throughout the rest of the winter – you can buy tickets here. Click here to stream his latest album, Oxnard.
