Blank Slate releases “Figures”

Detroit based progressive alternative band Blank Slate released their new single “Figures” today along with an accompanying video via Where Post Rock Dwells.

The song immediately captivates the listener, with vocalist/bassist Hannah Boissonneault’s beautiful harmonies cascading into existence. Her lyrics are as thought provoking as they are pretty; a direct reflection of Boissonneault as a young female artist.

Boissonneault is currently studying music composition at Michigan State University. Her skills are well developed across the board and allow her work to radiate with complexity.

This isn’t to discredit Jon Vokal, lead guitarist of the band. The intricacies in his guitar work do not overpower the song and work in harmony with Boissonneault’s vocals. Notes of influences such as Periphery and The Deer Hunter are sparkled in, but not over obvious.

The visual for the band’s previous single mimicked their on stage presence of white frames resting in the background. This aesthetic appeared in the music video for “Figures” featuring Vokal, Boissonneault and drummer Taco Perry.

The band also teamed up with local film maker Alex Brisbey to document their time at the Martenson Studio working with Michael Martenson (Boys of Fall). The mini documentary allows an inside look at the band’s creative process.
