Capstan visited Ferndale, MI alongside  Eidola last week. Joining the bands was Andrés, an alternative act from Bakersfield, CA. Capstan vocalist Anthony DeMario is a Michigan native, so the venue was packed with family and fans.

Local bands Saving Throw and Sincerely started off the evening. Saving Throw is a progressive rock trio consisting of Austin Stillwell (drums), Josh Murray (guitar) and Kyle Spaulding (bass). The band was just recently announced as part of this year’s BLED fest line up.

Sincerely is another instrumental only group from the Detroit area. The band’s groovy sound was a great way to kick the evening off. The band released their EP Sweet Talk in September of 2017 and included the song “Sunny Side” in their set.

Andrés was greeted by fans that quickly crowded the stage before his set. His charismatic personality quickly grabbed the attention of everyone in the room. After releasing his debut album Strange Memories on This Nervous Night in 2017, Andres Aparicio has already released a new single for 2018, “Photoshoot”.

Aparicio and his accompanying band bring a unique blend of pop style lyrics and themes  with a punk sound. The crowd was singing and dancing along by the end of the opening song.

Fans filled the room for Capstan, who was easily the most anticipated set of the evening. The band opened with “Dissension”  “Precariat” off of their new album In The Wake of Our Discord.

The band’s energy on stage was genuine, they were full of smiles and quick remarks that kept fans engaged. Vocalist Anthony DeMario was returning home for this show. DeMario grew up in Southgate, MI. The band gave a heartwarming shoutout to DeMario’s family for all of their hospitality.

Their set included other songs off of the new album including “The Wreath and The Follower” and “Zero Sum Game”. The band closed with “Wax Poetic” where DeMario shared the mic with fans.

Eidola is an experimental post-hardcore band from Salt Lake City, UT. The band released their third album To Speak, To Listen late 2017 not only as a full length album but also as a full length instrumental album.

The band opened with “The Abstract of a Planet in Resolve”. Vocalist Andrew Wells portrayed immense emotion onstage as he sang, especially during “The Familiar”.

The band also included songs off of their sophomore album Degeneraterra. They performed two of the temple trio including “Omni: First Temple” and “Contra: Second Temple”.

Eidola closed their set with a one song encore of “Primitive Economics”.

Unfortunately due to sickness Capstan had to drop the last two dates of the tour with Eidola. However, the band will be on the last cross country run of Vans Warped Tour this summer.
