New York based band Glassjaw kicked off their co-headlining tour with post-hardcore band Quicksand last weekend with an intense show at The Crofoot Ballroom. The tour is in celebration of the band’s first LP in 15 years, Material Control.
Opening for the bands was fellow New York natives Spotlights. The trio consists of Sarah (Bass/Guitar/Vocals) and Mario (Guitar/Synths/Vocals) Quintero alongside Chris Enriquez on drums.
The band featured a handful of songs off of their 2017 album Seismic including “Learn to Breathe” and closing song “Under the Earth”. Their dreamy, neo-psychedelic sound set the tone for the evening.
Up next, Quicksand opened their 17 song set with “Freezing Process” off of their 1993 LP Slip. The band’s hardcore sound was nothing short of expectations for the evening. Walter Schreifels’ soothing vocals captivated the crowd alongside the intricate instrumentals.
The band also included new songs from their 2017 album Interiors. Songs featured include “Fire this Time”, Illuminate” and “Normal Love”.
Finally, Glassjaw took the stage opening with “Cut and Run” the final track on their new album Material Control. Alongside the new material the band also featured old favorite such as “Siberian Kiss” off of the 2000 album Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence.
The band’s experimental hardcore sound created an intense energy in the ballroom. Vocalist Daryl Palumbo maintained this energy with his emotion driven lyrics that the crowd sang back to him.
The band closed their set with “Stuck Pig” off of their 2002 album Worship and Tribute. The summer tour will continue until the beginning of August. Watch Glassjaw’s new music video for “golgotha” here and follow the band on Facebook for more updates.
