Hazel Bloom debuts video for ‘I Loved You, Once’

“This song means a lot to me and has a lot of emotion flowing through it so I wanted to show the emotions I felt in visual form as well.”

After releasing Temporary, an acoustic album, indie-pop artist Hazel Bloom — born Dave Carlin — dropped “I Loved You, Once” a new single that strays away from the sound of his first album. The accompanying music video is set to drop Oct. 9 and features very vivid imagery, one that Bloom says captures the feeling behind the song perfectly.

“It’s essentially about feeling lost, then you stumble into this person that makes you feel complete,” he said. “I wanted to create a video that portrayed that emotion in a visual form. This song means a lot to me and has a lot of emotion flowing through it so I wanted to show the emotions I felt in visual form as well.”

While writing his first album, Carlin said that he was unsure of his ability to be a solo act, but grew into being a singer and songwriter.

“Writing and recording that album really helped open my eyes to the potential I had as a writer,” he said. “I started experimenting more with pop and r&b as well as started listening to more of these genres — I fell in love with the vibe and emotion I felt from the music.”

The vibe of ‘I Loved You, Once’ is “absolutely” the direction that he is going to continue in with new songs.

“When I first wrote ‘I Loved You, Once’ it was like something in me clicked, it proved to myself that I can write a song I am fully proud of and think people will enjoy, by myself,” said Carlin. “I fell in love with the genre and it was the first time I felt at home with the music I wrote.”

Aside from the music video being released, he has a lot that he’s looking to get done before the end of 2018 — including working with Chris Curran who has also worked with PVRIS, The Dangerous Summer and Set It Off.

“My main focus for the near future is to start booking more shows, write more material and set a release date for a new single,” said Carlin. “As of right now, I think I will be working towards a new EP for the spring of 2019.”

Looking ahead, Carlin is ready to get fresh music out to his listeners. He has two shows coming up this fall in Massachusetts in addition to an appearance on the Dale LePage Radio Show with Andrea Castinetti on 10/15 at 1 p.m.

“I can’t wait to release my new songs as well as the stories behind them,” he said.
