The Rooftop Rebellion bring new blend of sound in 2018

Brooklyn natives The Rooftop Rebellion have introduced a new sound following their self titled release in 2012. The band blends and aggressive punk sound with a bright, ambient vibe that brings a different taste than their previous acoustic tunes.

“It was a needed change to explore some different styles and song writing. Although creatively fulfilling, the energy of playing with a full band and a big live sound is really what moves us at the core.” the band said. “The marriage of songwriting from earlier and the new intensity of a full band is what really started to define our sound.”

James Brady and Scott Aquilino started The Rooftop Rebellion together following a heavy band, starting with a more acoustic sound. Enter Michael Crapanzano Anthony Ponzo, completing the band.

The intimate song lyrics presented in The Rooftop Rebellion have adapted themselves easily with a more in your face, hard punk blend of music behind them.

“We try to write lyrics that are easy to distinguish over the music.” said the band. “We try to find words that the audience can quickly catch and connect with, and for the more wordy phrases we try and find pockets within the music that rhythmically allow for a little more lyrical attention during the song”

The band draws lyrical inspiration from Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die as well as Brian Fallon from Gaslight Anthem.

“[Buckley] is such a genius when it comes to crafting these phrases that peek out from the fury of music that is going on and just rope you in, and his use of imagery perfectly marries the lyrics to the music.” said the band.

In addition, the band draws on elements from the 90’s grunge era, listing artists such as Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Billy Corgan and Kurt Cobain as idols they listened to growing up.

“When it comes to structure, repetition and finding meaning in a song we always felt like the songs from that era kind of hit-home more so than other musical era’s.” the band said.

The band supports their Brooklyn scene, encouraging listeners to give a listen to a handful of up and coming artists.

“Our local scene is packed with some talented people.” said the band. “We’d recommend checking out Anaka, At The Ready, Tempest City and August on Sunday.”

The Rooftop Rebellion has been teasing fans on social media as they have been hard at work in the studio, planning on having the new album out in the late fall. The band also has a couple of shows lined up for October including the Cancer Can’t Kill Love benefit show along with the Gramercy Theater on October 14th with Doyle (The Misfits).

“We hope 2019 brings more success to this band.” the band said. “We work really hard to get things done and we feel the future is bright for us. We’re gonna get back to writing new songs, playing shows and connecting with people thru music.”
