Neck Deep‘s release of The Peace and the Panic last year was met with extreme success. So much success, that the band decided to to extend the celebratory tour. The band stopped at Royal Oak Music Theater at the end of September with friends in Trophy Eyes, Stand Atlantic and WSTR.
The band stepped on stage to the crowd’s chants of “neck deep”, letting vocalist Ben Barlow run on last as they kicked into “Motion Sickness”. Following “Gold Steps” the band was quick to throw it back to “Crushing Grief (No Remedy)” off of their 2014 album Wishful Thinking.
The set was mostly full of The Peace and the Panic and Life’s Not Out to Get You tracks. This left long time fans a little disappointed when the band skipped “A Part of Me”, but instead played an acoustic rendition of “19 Seventy Sumthin’.”
The band recently debuted their cover of Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn”, and preformed the song live that evening. They performed a powerhouse of an encore with “Can’t Kick Up the Roots” and “Where Do We Go When We Go.”
Trophy Eyes released their third album this fall, The American Dream. The band featured many songs off of the new album including “You Can Count On Me” and “Something Bigger Than This.” Vocalist John Floreani joined the crowd at the barrier during “Lavender Bay.”
Openers Stand Atlantic and WSTR were the perfect blend to open the show. Both bands were highly anticipated by the crowd, making the energy high from the first song of the show.
