Just before starting his second headlining tour in the United States, Noah Kahan filled the Majestic in Detroit with opening act JP Saxe.
At only 22 years old, Noah released his debut album Busyhead, featuring fan favorites “False Confidence” and “Cynic.” Kahan has topped the charts in Australia and Sweden (among other countries) with his 2018 hit song “Hurt Somebody,” featuring fellow Republic Records artist Julia Michaels.
His coffee shop sound is similar to artists such as Matt Nathanson and John Mayer. This sound made him the perfect compliment to Dean Lewis earlier this year in Europe and the UK as well as to James Bay in North America.
Kahan is an artist dedicated to his craft and his fans; He purchased a brand new Carhartt coat the day of the show and gave it to an enthusiastic audience member.
His set included a solo performance of the albums title track as well as an intimate, unplugged opening to the closing track “Young Blood.”
Opening the show was JP Saxe, a Canadian native on his first U.S. tour. The show had a way of making the audience feel comfortable and at home. The crowd loved his intimate singer/songwriter set, feeling welcome to talk with the artist while he was on stage.
Saxe seemed to love interacting with the audience, even stopping his set to make sure a medical emergency in the crowd was attended to properly. He also hung out by his merch table to talk with fans at the end of the night.
Aside from his dedication to his fans, Saxe’s musicianship shines. His newest single “If The World Was Ending ” featuring Julia Michaels caught the crowds attention as he performed it live.
The artists music centers around break-up songs (or as he likes to refer to them, “post love songs.” His mood was contagious, and everyone in the crowd was dancing along.
