Saint Motel – St. Andrews Hall – 2.21.20

American indie-pop band Saint Motel continues its ‘The Motion Picture Show’ Tour in Detroit, Michigan at St. Andrews Hall.
The show kicked off with Kolars, a duo from Los Angeles. Their music style combines elements of new wave, blues, psychedelia, glam, folk, disco, and punk.
The duo was sure to include their early 2020 single “Here Comes the Night” along with their 2019 works “Teenage Kicks,” “Touch the Lightning” and “Turn it Up.”
They excited the crowd with their high energy performance. The drummer, Lauren Brown, has an interesting new take on drumming as she tap dances while drumming throughout the entire performance.
Saint Motel then took the stage with a unique intro to their performance. Lead singer A.J. Jackson carries a lit up torch in the dark and walks directly in front of the crowd, making his way onto the stage. Jackson carried the torch as he sang the first song in their set, “Cold Cold Man.” He then handed the torch to a fan in the crowd.
The band included all songs off of their most recent EP The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Pt 1. However, they were sure to include old favorite “Puzzle Piece” from their debut album Voyeur.
In addition, Saint Motel included a few surprise covers for fans. The talented group covered Maxine Nightingale’s “Right Back Where We Started” and Sufjan Stevens “Chicago.”
The energy throughout the entire set was very high, keeping the crowd engaged and having a great time. Their three song encore included “Butch” “Van Horn” and “My Type.”
