Celebrating 20 years as a band, Taking Back Sunday has been touring world-wide in honor of the anniversary. After selling out two nights in Detroit, fans were packing the hall to partake in the celebration.
Early this year, the band released Twenty via Craft Recordings. The album is a 21 song collection spanning hits from the band’s entire catalogue including two new tracks; “All Ready to Go” and “A Song for Dan.”
“It feels strange to say out loud…2019 marks 20 years since I joined Taking Back Sunday and my life changed forever,” says singer Adam Lazzara in a press release. “So, next year we will be traveling the world to celebrate the amazing brotherhood, music and life we have created together over the past 20 years. We hope you can join us for what is sure to be an experience to remember.”
With this being the second leg of the tour, fans were anticipating full album performances. The band did not disappoint, performing Tell All Your Friends in full both nights. The first evening, the band included Where You Want to Be as well as a three song encore. The second night, the band included a full rendition of Louder Now.
Both evenings, the crowd was full of energy an excitement, with numerous fans attending both nights in order to hear as many tracks performed live as they could.
Fans screamed lyrics back to Lazzara as he swung the mic around on stage.
Lazzara was full of smiles on stage as he heard his words repeated back to him, leaving the rest of the band to follow suit. Guitarist John Nolan, drummer Mark O’Connell and bassist Shaun Cooper played along with the antics.
The emo icons prove that not only are they landmarks in the alt-rock genre, but will continue to be so in the coming years. In addition to a jaw-dropping live performance, the band has earned three gold albums, four Top 10 albums, ten Top 10 singles on the Billboard charts, and have recently became the youngest inductees into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
Opening for this leg of the tour was Oklahoma City natives, Red City Radio. The band’s high energy sound and interactive tendencies with the audience made for a perfect opening act for both evenings.
