Lil Tjay – St. Andrews Hall – 2/23/20

When one hears the name Lil Tjay they’d probably think of the 2019 super hit “Pop Out” that he featured with Polo G and had a stand out verse.

Things seemingly changed over night for the New York native with seemingly everyone anticipating his first solo project True 2 Myself which dropped in October of 2019. The album impressively became RIAA certified GOLD in less than 3 months and features collaborations with Lil Wayne, Lil Baby, Jay Critch, Lil Durk, and Rileyy Lanez.

As 2020 kicks off, it seems there is no ceiling for the 18 year old artist as he embarks on a full U.S. tour.

The first thing that is striking about a Lil Tjay show is the energy and unity among his audience. The anticipation of his performance was evident as opener Big Havi took the stage and the audience nearly lost it. Big Havi was a perfect start up for the tour. Performing his self proclaimed “pain art” off of his recent release Personal Problems, he was able to grip the audience with themes of inspiration, hardships and set the mood for the rest of the night.

The energy Lil Tjay has live is amazing. He can match the energy of his audience. To be on seemingly the same wavelength as everyone in the room is a talent a lot of artists lack.

Evidence of this is the five minutes he took throwing water bottles into the crowd just to have everybody splash all their water in the air when the beat dropped for his feature with the late Pop Smoke “War.”

Performing all of his hits such as “Pop Out,” “F.N.” and “Leaked” he included a majority of his debut effort.

Smoke machines, water bombs and high energy all add to an experience that you can really only experience at a Tjay show.
