Prime Music Festival 2019

Prime Music Festival is an escape – the blend of electronic and hip-hop acts make for a weekend of memories that are memorable and vivid enough to carry through until the next year.

The festival kicked off on Friday with acts like MWHY and Black Magic. The two openers warmed the crowd up and kept them dancing. An early standout was Australian DJ GG Magree. Spinning a half hour of her favorite metal tracks that she remixed was a breath of fresh air that the audience welcomed openly.

Kid Quill made his return to Michigan after his Breakaway performance and filled the stage with energy marking the first hip hop act. Next was North Carolina Mega Star DaBaby. Coming off an amazing tail half of 2019 the energetic rapper made a long lasting impression with everyone in attendance. Performing hits like “SUGE” and “babysitter” he ensured that this was the highlight of day one.

Closing out Friday was LA native RL Grime. Combining the beautiful mixes of songs new and old along with the masterful lighting and stage design, this was the perfect ending to an amazing first day.

Much like day one, the second day of the festival started off with some dancing. Chicago MC Valee opened up the pit and got the audience hyped up.

Late addition Andre Drummond – yes 6’11 NBA center for the Detroit pistons Andre Drummond – had a surprisingly refreshing performance with his fellow MC and friend Tailz.

Lil Mosey graced the stage next & got the crowd singing with songs like “Noticed” and “Kamikaze.” He even went the lengths of brining our rising Detroit artist TEEJAYX6 to surprise the crowd.

EDM duo Galanits took the stage next with stunning imagery and lighting effects.

Capping off an amazing weekend, Lansing was treated to the all star Missouri duo Rae Sremmurd. Consisting of Swae Lee and Slim Jimmi, this multi platinum duo has been on top for years. Their set sounded more like a greatest hits CD than anything with mega hit after hit was performed and recited back by the audience.

Between the two crowd surfing, to the one on one time they spent with most of the front row after the set, this was definitely the highlight of the weekend.

There may be festivals that are larger and have more acts but Prime has an unmistakable charm to it that brings fans back year after year.
